Boycott Universal Music Group (UMG)!
In a recent interview Universal Music Group (UMG) chairman/CEO, Doug Morris, called every iPod owner a thief. It’s pretty rare that the CEO of a company pisses off millions of potential and current customers but Morris managed to do just that when he told reporters “These devices [iPods and Zunes] are just repositories for stolen music, and they all know it. So it’s time to get paid for it.” According to MacRumors.com , 42 million iPods have been sold since its initial release in 2001. That sure is a lot of thieves, Doug. To make matters worse, you’ve most likely just picked a fight with the company who holds an 85% market share of songs sold online. Not the best move ever made. So, in response to Mr. Morris’ outlandish and hypocrtical remark, I’ve decided to start boycotting UMG. I’ll soon be posting information on which artists are under the UMG label as well as any other news to come out of this situation. I’ll probably also post a petition or something of that nature to sign since people seem to like those. Anyway, check back soon as the site will be up and running as soon as possible.
Oh, by the way, congrats to Microsoft for caving in to the pressure and giving UMG a portion of every Zune player sold. I think it’s safe to say I won’t be buying one of those any time soon either.
